This is a neat article about how office hours are obsolete. I love this and totally agree with it. Now this isn't suggesting we stop meeting with students...just that we don't need to schedule times. I feel that office hours are useless to me, being an online professor. My students aren't even usually in my time zone. Most have families and full time jobs. Random times each week won't help them. They need to schedule their times based on their schedule. So I tell students to just send me a couple of times and I'll make one work. I also answer emails and texts all the time. When it used to be harder to get professors (before email and texts!) you needed that time to get ahold of them....now we are just a click away!
