We put Andrew in skating lessons. He is loving it and can't wait to play hockey with big brother! He's gotten so much better in just a short time!

So I worked feverishly before we started packing on catching up on updating scrapbooks. Still have a ways to go on ours, but I have made some headway.
We've done some card making classes here in Palmer - I really like this is Christmas card!

So the first grade classes at Adam's school are keeping moon journals. Okay, fine. I like science related topics. Not a problem. We have to keep it EVERY day...okay, annoying, but again, I get it and not surprising, we are VERY religious on homework. But seriously, they picked the WORST month. First, the moon is only up in the morning (in the daylight...unless of course I want to get Adam up at a 4 AM...so NOT). Second, it has been SO cloudy that we can never see it anyway! So I did figure out when it is up (thank you, internet) and have been watching that to make sure we hit it each day....but then I go look and we can't see a darned thing. So FAIL on this assignment. Just whining.....

no, it isn't that juice...sorry....but the truth is I make horrible brownies. Just do. Doesn't seem to matter what I do. So like the boxes of brownie mix my grandmother gave me. Still I can't get them to bake properly! Grr!!! But I found this site online and I really like these incarnations...I did the caramel brownies and cheesecake brownies. But still, I cooked like almost 20 minutes extra, still under done in the middle and the caramel was burning on the edges. Brownies hate me!
Ray just loves this recipe. I wanted to find a good marinade for bone-in pork chops so we could grill them. This is a winner. Now this can be used on chicken, steak or pork, but we've been using it for pork chops. I am not a huge pork chop person, but try to work them into our meals as Ray likes them. This is something I can say I actually like.
Whiskey Pork Chops
Whiskey Pork Chops
Modified from Food.com
1/2 cup whiskey
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup oil (they said olive, I've used both that and vegetable oil)
1/2 tbsp. garlic powder
1/4 cup soy sauce
1 tbsp. salt
4 bone-in pork chops
Mix all ingredients in marinate together. Pour over pork chops. Marinate for at least 3 hours. Grill pork chops.

I actually made these awhile ago (just getting around to cleaning off my computer!). I made them with Ray in mind, but he didn't really like them so they aren't something I plan to repeat. They are okay cookies, but you don't really get the root beer flavor in our opinions.
I read this post recently and I love it because I so get it...this is me! I totally feel that so many people don't get that "work at home" means I actually have to work at home. They just get the at home and the rest goes over their head. I have a lot to do each day, with the kids, with the house, with my work....and because I work at home, work never leaves. My students call at random times...every day of the week...I have to pretty always be on call. Most of the time this isn't a big deal, but sometimes it is quite annoying. That's actually why I was fighting the smartphone trend (I lost...we got them when we moved...pretty much had to get a decent plan)...I didn't want to be able to do stuff for students when I was away!
This is a neat article about how office hours are obsolete. I love this and totally agree with it. Now this isn't suggesting we stop meeting with students...just that we don't need to schedule times. I feel that office hours are useless to me, being an online professor. My students aren't even usually in my time zone. Most have families and full time jobs. Random times each week won't help them. They need to schedule their times based on their schedule. So I tell students to just send me a couple of times and I'll make one work. I also answer emails and texts all the time. When it used to be harder to get professors (before email and texts!) you needed that time to get ahold of them....now we are just a click away!
