Day 15

Andrew managed to tell us and make it to the potty (Adam was on it...had to do a switch!) for Number 2.  ALL went into the potty, none on his undies!  YAH!!!  We are finally making some headway here.

I have to say the Kindle Fire has proved invaluable here - that is how we have convinced him to SIT long enough to try to go.  Although that didn't turn out to be an issue today!

As a note, for those who might not know - do NOT use the flushable wipes (or at least don't flush them).  The manufacturers are full of you-know-what about their "flush ability."  We were actually told early on and only ever like flushed 1 (and then never bought anymore),  but some friends here ended up with a HUGE mess and a HUGE plumbing bill over them!

Super Andrew

Rainbow Toast

Adam's class did this with milk and food coloring. I did it with butter and food coloring (obviously you have to adjust for the starting yellow with butter).  Adam was happy as he wanted to try this again at home.  He did also eat it all, which is an improvement for him on food projects!

Hole Punching Fun

The boys were "helping" Daddy by punching holes in his articles for his comps and then putting them into a binder.  I think some reorganization might be necessary, but they were trying hard to be helpful!

New Racetrack

The boys got a new racetrack (actually two) and were enjoying racing Lightning McQueen.

Scrapbooking

Some recent pages to the boys' joint scrapbook

Notice the use of my new Cricut!

Fish Biscuits

The boys are on an Octonauts kick (Disney cartoon, originally a British book series...we do own some books as well).  So they wanted "fish biscuits" which are the treat they are always eating.  So I was making zucchini cookies anyway and managed these for them.  They were a hit! Because these are drop cookies, I moulded them into the shape, then used the cookie cutter on the finished cookies as well.

THREE MILES!!!

I finally made it to 3 miles today in my C25K!!!!  I'm so happy!  Now I just need to stay here and keep working on improving time.  I'd like to be at 30 miles, which I think is reasonable for me.

Day 12

Andrew actually was trying really hard today, although we are still having issues with the runs. But I was thrilled to see how hard he was trying! I am seeing some progress on the #2 issue and he is telling us more versus us always asking him, which is also a step in the right direction.

We had issues with Adam on Tuesday night....he woke up with the runs as well (seems to be our house lately!), so bad we had to change his pants even though he did make it....it was just a little.  But still, totally not normal. Not a good addition to the week!

Scrapbook Update

Here is my updated scrapbook - just did a few more! This is one of my favorites!

I was playing with my new Cricut!

Done with the body!

I'm done with the body! Just the sleeves to go! I'm happy with myself!  I did try this on last week and it fits!  Yah!

Edging
Bottom edge
Fabric - I thin this yarn (the homespun) worked out really well!

Day 10

Well, today Andrew pooped in the tub. Lovely.  Oh, well....so we are still working on that.

Day 8

Andrew didn't make much progress today, even had an accident, although he did go in the potty at Mass, so that was good.  But overall, he really  has pee down, we just need to continue working on poop, which takes longer.

Day 7: SPT

We have poop!  Andrew told us before bed that he wanted to go potty.  So he went pee. Then he decided he wasn't done and said he had to go poop...and went!  He also went pee in a public restaurant!  He's doing awesome!

Outdoor Fun

Having fun outside!

Adam decided that they should "attack" the rain

Spring flowers

Manny's Tool Belt

I found this today while cleaning out drawers and the boys were in love again!

Baby Card

Cute, huh?

Oatmeal Cookie Muffin

These were really good!  You can see I plan some fruit changes, but if you like raisins, you'll like the original as well.

Oatmeal Cookie Muffin

***NOTE: Must soak oats overnight!!***

1 cup buttermilk (you can make this with milk and lemon juice)
1/2 cup rolled oats (not instant or quick cooking...old fashioned rolled oats or steel cut)
1 egg
1/2 cup dark brown sugar
2 tbsp. canola oil
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp vanilla
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 cup fruit (they used raisins, like oatmeal raisin cookies....I don't like raisins....I think apples would be better here! I did try these plain, but they need something....I'm going to try both apples and dried cherries)
1 cup flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda

Combine buttermilk and oats in covered container and put in refrigerator overnight.  To make batter, crack egg and beat lightly.  Add oat mixture, sugar, oil, cinnamon, vanilla, salt and fruit.  Stir well to combine.  Add flour, baking powder and baking soda and stir.  Do not overmix.  It will be lumpy and that's okay.

Preheat oven to 375.  Either use liners or spray tins with Pam.  Put dough into muffin cups.  Bake for 15-20 minutes or until top of muffin is firm to the touch or toothpick is clean.  Cool on a rack.

Makes 6 muffins.

Day 6

Andrew is doing great with the peeing.  He is still having issues with Number 2, but that always comes more slowly.  He did make it once today, which is a good step!  I'm very happy with him!

Days 4-5

Andrew is doing awesome with the potty training. Although we still have to ask constantly, we aren't seeing pee accidents. The runs mad yesterday interesting and he didn't poop at all today (in potty or in the pants), but yesterday we got a little into the potty, but obviously a lot more into the drawers with the runny issues.  He seems to be doing well, though, and even figured out how to pee in the grass today (an important little boy skill). He was very proud of himself....and had to do it in the FRONT yard, of course!  Here's hoping for some normal poop success tomorrow!

Day 3: Potty Training

So I meant to post this last night, but oh well.  Anyway, Andrew did very well yesterday - no PEE accidents!  Still pooping in his drawers, but he is telling us.  He started to get the runs last night, which didn't help.  He woke up at 3:30 AM covered in poop from it. It was NOT nice.  A lot of the problem is that the 3T/4T pull ups are too small, the 4T/5T are too large.  And it was very runny last night.  But definitely icky. Oh, well.

As of this morning, he still hasn't had a pee accident and has pooped once on the potty!  Still have some issues with the runs, though, which sucks as this is NOT a good time for that!

Jennie Update

I went to Chicago the first week of April and gave a presentation (on online math tests if you care...at CITE 2013).  While this was fun and great for my resume (the entire conference was useful and some of my co-workers were there, which is always nice to be able to see them F2F), it meant that Ray  had to take time off work and overall just was a bump in the road.  But it went well and was well worth it.

Because of that, though, I got off my exercise routine and so am kind of "stuck" at 2.5 miles right now. Hoping this week will prove to be a good reset and restart week and am actually hoping to maybe be at 2.75 by the end of the week.  We shall see.

Day 2: Serious Potty Training

Andrew actually went on the potty FOUR times today. He had more misses than that, but still good progress.  He seemed to be trying to hold/figure it out as the day went on, which is good.  Adam has continued to be VERY  helpful and supportive to his brother about this.  When Andrew got up from nap, he was dry, so I put him right on the potty, which did NOT please him.  So I was trying to calm him, and Adam walks in.  Adam tells him something (I was there, but can't remember) and Andrew perks up, asks for the TV tray (both boys like to play on the potty, just lie their Uncle Billy....) and quits crying.  THEN he pees on the potty!  Adam rocks!!

Knitting Project Updates

This is what was left after the hat below - pretty nice!  The hat is a newborn hat for a cousin's baby!

Sweater progress!

Spring flowers

Look what's up!

Andrew

He still loves this toy and he's had it for years! Adam, too!

At the Zoo

Adam's First Soccer Practice

Adam did really well at his first soccer practice.
All dirty!

Playing while brother practiced

End of Day 1: Serious Potty Training

So no victories, but not to be expected yet. Hope for a better tomorrow!

Adam has been VERY supportive of his brother, hopefully this continues to help!

Day 1: Serious Potty Training

We are starting to seriously potty train Andrew, so I thought I'd blog it. Mainly just to vent, so if you aren't into toddler bodily functions, skip these!

We had no end of trouble with Adam.  We started too early, did the wrong things...it was a mess.  So we are trying to be better with Andrew.  Of course, every child is different.  With Adam I even tried reading parenting books...which just made me mad (I hate parenting books...it isn't that I think I'm a perfect parent or anything, but so much depends on knowing your own kid that there isn't a good way to write a book on it....it ends up being anecdotal and not often helpful, the anecdotal ones can be funny, the others ones tend to be all superior and REALLY annoying).  What worked for Adam was finally just putting him in training pants and letting him wet himself until he got a clue.  As a note, we knew he COULD, he just didn't WANT to.

Andrew is now at the same stage.   He's has the communication skills, he knows the stuff...he just doesn't care.  In essence, modern diapers and pull ups are too good!  I need 1950s crummy ones that they will NOT like.

So today, Andrew is not leaving home and he's in training pants. He's peed himself about 5 times (he's napping right now, in a pull up) and is not happy, but seems to be getting it. He's even saying "sorry" when he does it. As long as he TELLS us, we aren't punishing him, just telling him to get to the potty.  I don't plan on him leaving the house at all this week except to like to run to school to drop Adam off (and I'll just put a pull up OVER his training pants for that).  So here's hoping!

We'd really like to  be done with diapers as Andrew is plenty big enough and I'm sick of them.  Ray is REALLY sick of them!  This summer would be great with two potty trained boys!

Blessed Gianna, pray for us....(I've decided she's the patron saint of potty training...at least for me!)

Park Fun

Going to the park!

Climbing over - he's getting good at this!  He's also getting all the way up to the top of the bars!

Climbing up the wrong way - he's ready for elementary school!

Hanging out.

Sound Waves

Adam wanted to do this experiment out of Turtle magazine on sound waves. The general idea is that the different amount of water gives different sounds. You can hear that here.  The colors were just for fun.

Andrew

My t-ball boy - quite the fashion statement!  Rubber boots, t-shirt and pull up!

Dancing away!

This is comfortable?

3Ts

We moved Andrew up to 3Ts.

We are working on potty training - he is greatly resisting.  We plan to "force" the issue next week and go to what worked with Adam - putting in him in training pants and letting him wet himself. A lot of laundry, but seemed to help Adam get the picture, so we are hoping it will help Andrew. As he is NOT interested right now and we are ready for him to be!

New Wood Rack

Ray and Adam made a wood rack.  We are planning to get fire pit this summer!  Yah!

Easter Egg Hunt

Easter Egg Hunt at our Church - the boys had a blast!  Adam even wanted to visit the Easter Bunny!
