Alaska Trip

For those of you who want to know. Adam and I will be in Alaska from June 25th to July 8th. We are planning to attend the class reunion. Ray isn't coming, though - he has to work.

So who does Adam Look Like?

I can't tell - what do you all think?

Stuck Grading

I'm home, stuck grading papers on Dante (although so far they have been VERY good), while Ray and Adam are in Michigan to visit his parents. My baby is spending his first night away from Mommy.....Mommy was about in tears when he left. Daddy is awesome, but he doesn't cuddle like Mommy. Adam will probably barely miss me what with Daddy, Grammy and PaPa all to take care of him, but Mommy sure will miss him.

We OWN the Oldsmobile!!

Yes, we paid off the Oldsmobile today - so exciting!! This is good since we are planning to buy a new car within a few months. But very excited for the moment - no car payment for a few months.:) We'll just save it up to put a down payment on the next one, but still....feels good.:) We weren't scheduled to finish paying on it until January 2010, which really makes me happy - and saves us a lot of interest.

Oh, the dentist - no help. Also saying TMJ and my OB said it was probably because I'm sleeping different - listing for the baby and whatnot. Anyway, the dentist told me to just buy a mouth guard and that should help. Oh, and I was only at my OB because I had my annual check up - which seriously - didn't they do ENOUGH checking over my pregnancy? But whatever...its done for another year.

Rest of the Car Story

We got the Lumina back today - turned out it was some security wire...which probably explains the security light that has been going on and off in my car for a few months.:) In any case, it is fixed and it wasn't that bad (problem or price). Definitely like this car place - we will be back. Midas always just infuriates me!

While Grandma and Grandpa were here we did a little baking and tried two new recipes Grandma had. Both were really great. The Good For You Chocolate Cherry Clusters are delicious and semi-healthy. Plus as they are no-bake, they are easy and kid-friendly to make. Ray loved the lemonade cake (as he loves lemonade). I sent the rest of it into the airport today where I'm sure it got gobbled up as well (there were no extra cherry clusters!).

Lemonade Cake
From Nancy (my cousin)

1 pkg lemon Jell-O [the real stuff, not the instant]
3/4 cups hot water
1 pkg lemon cake mix
4 eggs
3/4 cups vegetable oil

1/4 lb lemonade [This made no sense to me at the store and it turned out that my cousin Nancy used frozen lemonade, but what we did worked just fine. I used powdered (which I use all the time to make lemonade) lemonade mix. I made a batch of lemonade (normally), then we took about 3/4 cup of it and added extra powder (about 3 tbsp) to make it stronger. We just drank the rest of the batch of lemonade - wouldn't want to waste.:)]

Mix and bake the cake at 300 for 35-40 minutes in buttered and floured pan [you can use a bundt pan or a regular cake pan - we did this in a 13 by 9 regular cake pan, while my cousin did the bundt pan. Since we changed the pan size, we started with the box's recommendation for our size and went from there.] Poke holes in the cake and then pour the lemonade on after its baked. You can serve and store at room temperature.

My Car Story

On Friday, I was taking my grandparents to the airport. We did several errands - all was going good and we stopped for lunch. Well, we come out and go to start the car - and it won't start. Won't turn over, do anything! It had done this back in November once, but had been fine since (it started after like 15 minutes). Well, this time, I couldn't get it going at all. So my grandparents had to call a taxi and I had to call someone to find Ray (who didn't have his cell phone on as he was giving FAA exam) to come and get me. Luckily we were at a Cracker Barrel, so Adam and I were fine - good bathrooms, a gorgeous day and a place in the shade to wait (or I could go inside if I needed). Ray came and couldn't get the Lumina started either, so we left it there while he finished work. After he got off, he got me and Adam from home and we went back to try again. It still wouldn't start, so we called a tow truck and had to towed to a local mechanic and they'll look at it on Monday. Hopefully it will be a cheap fix because we are planning to sell the Lumina soon and don't want to put more money into it as it isn't worth that much anymore (it is a '95). But we can sell (or trade in) a car that doesn't run! We are hopefully paying off the Oldsmobile this month and then we are planning to actually buy a NEW CAR at the end of the summer. Our first new car - we are thinking a Saturn Vue right now. Ray's dad works for GM and gets a discount. We are lucky right now, though, because my grandparents are storing their Suburban at our house for the summer (they drove it down, but flew back and will fly back in September to drive it home), so I can drive that while we figure out the car situation. The Lumina looked so sad on the tow struck has been such a good deserves a better end! So pray for us that we can get it fixed, so we can get a decent trade in out of it.

In other news, my mouth is still killing me (you know, since the doctor pretty much wrote me off). I made a dentist appointment - I really hope they can find something to put me out of my misery. I have been living on motrin and I hate doing that, but otherwise I'm in abject pain. At this point, a root canal sounds good because it means it is taken care of!

Oh, Adam is really starting to move. He can't crawl, but pushes himself forward - must hurt his face, but all he wants to do is MOVE. He hasn't figured out that he could roll places, though - that is probably coming. I want him to learn to sit up, but he'd rather just work on crawling!

Adam and Me

Adam and I did really well over the weekend - the house even stayed neat. Adam slept good and was a great baby. Ray got home late Sunday night and then Monday started out bad with a plumbing back up. Between students and other stuff, Adam (and Olga) was grumpy. But it did get better - Grandpa and Grandma got here late afternoon and are here until Friday, so we will have lots of fun. Adam loves his greaties.:) Pat had surgery on Monday to put in her pacemaker, but she is now home and doing well. She sounded great on the phone today and happy to be out of that darned hospital!

Not on the Test

This is hilarous - and unfortunately too true!

Historically Inaccurate Movies

Yahoo! did a list of the 10 most inaccurate historical movies and I was very glad to see that The Patriot was listed!

Single Parenting

Ray is in Chicago this weekend so Adam and I are alone. We are doing good so far - Adam is such a good little baby! Adam and I were out running errands this morning and friends are coming over to help me during office hours tomorrow night.

What is 8 hours - how long Adam slept last night without getting up!! I know it won't last - we are actually THRILLED that we usually get one 5-6 hour period each night, but I was quite impressed last night! My little boy is growing up.:)

Book Meme Tagging

I was tagged by Michael over at the American Presidents' Blog.

The rules:
1. Pick up the nearest book.
2. Open to page 123
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the next three sentences.
5. Tag five people, and acknowledge who tagged you.

Since I'm in the middle of checking in with all my classes, I'm going to use the textbook sitting next to me. It is actually from the course I'm prepping for next term - Western Civ II, Civilization in the West, Vol. C, 7th ed, by Kishlanksy, Geary, O'Brien. Now because this is a three volume series, they continue page numbers (which actually I find rather annoying, but anyway....), so what I did was go 123 pages from the start of this volume. The 6-8th sentences on that page (713) are:
But what occurred between March and May 1871 was not a proletarian revolution. Rather, it was a continuation of the state of siege that had held Paris through the fall and early winter months. Parisians were still at war.

I'm going to tag: Ramble on and on, Christine's Blog, April's Thoughts, The Educational Tour Marm, and Life's Little Moments.

Adam's Grin and Laugh

These were the best from trying to capture my little stinker's grin and laugh

Adam in Shorts

Adam in shorts - isn't he getting big?

Trying to crawl

Why won't my legs work?

We are all doing well. Ray is off to Chicago this weekend to play games with his friends. Adam and I will hang out together at home alone. Adam is getting really good with his head control and rolling over. He wants to crawl so bad....he just jams his knees under him and then screams when he can't go anywhere. He can't laugh yet, but is getting close and talks a lot and has the most beautiful smile! I was trying to get a picture of it, but he was being stubborn - I'd hit take and he's quit smiling. His Daddy was inordinately proud of him!

Weather has been really good here, but today was colder. I've been having bad headaches - I think sinus, but medicine hasn't been that helpful and the doctors were useless. Just gave me pain medication and seemed to blow me off. Hopefully that means it will go away.

How is that comfortable? But he's sleeping like an angel.:)

Chocolate Chip Cookies

Next week's recipe carnival is for award-winning recipes - and you can award yourself an award if you want, but I decided to include the only recipe that I've ever won anything for - my chocolate chip cookies. Where you ask? The Alaska State Fair....which I haven't been to in years and I have to say I miss it. There are tons of county fairs in Ohio, but nothing is on the same scale. They have a big state fair somewhere I'm sure, but it just isn't the same.

Chocolate Chip Cookies
3 cups margarine [do NOT use butter]
3 cups sugar
1 1/2 cups brown sugar
3 tsp vanilla
7 cups flour
3 tsp baking soda
3 tsp salt
3 tsp water
6 extra large eggs [if you go smaller, the cookies will be dry]
1 (12 oz) bag of semi-sweet chocolate chips (If you like a very chippy cookie, use 2 bags of chips)

Mix wet ingredients together (all but water) and then dry plus the water. Add in dry ingredients slowly as you mix.

Bake at 350 degrees for 10-15 minutes.

Makes a double batch (about 7 dozen).

Mr. Rogers

Adam and I watched Mr. Roger's today - I haven't watched that show in YEARS!! Felt good though.:) Adam and I watch some Baby Einstein, but also a lot of food network and then shows Mommy likes - like 7th Heaven, Friends, etc. Right now he just likes sounds and shapes.

Recipe Carnival

The newest recipe carnival is up now. I did try a new recipe not long ago, but it wasn't that good (bland), so I'm not putting it up.

Happy Birthday to my Dad!

My father is 51 today!

My grandparents (so Adam's great-grandparents) were visiting this week. They just left for PA today to visit more family and attend my Aunt Marge's memorial (she was Grandpa's sister). We had a blast with them - they'll actually be back in a few weeks as they are leaving a car here (they drove down) and flying home. They'll come back for the car in September and drive it home then.

Adam is really into his rolling over and already working on trying to crawl. He has the leg strength, but not the arm strength. I actually want him to learn to sit up - that'll help me out! He hasn't quite figured out that if he rolls over a few times, he can go places - not really into him learning that! He's just growing and gaining every day!

My classes are keeping me really busy, but the weather is looking nicer here everyday. I can't wait for summer and I can work outside in the yard.
