Cooking Shows

Source: http://www.gocomics.com/reallifeadventures/2007/04/29/

So true...its like Rachael Ray's 30 minute meals - they usually take me about 45 minutes! I like them and they are pretty fast, but I'm sorry - my pots are never right where I want them, my produce isn't always prepped, and I just can't time things that perfectly. Let's face it - while she might really cook it, there is a lot of practice/prep work there that I just don't have! Like yesterday, I made my version of her Chicken Noodle Soup, which is awesome, but always takes me about 45 minutes. Hey, as a note, I always freeze half of this (because while she says it is only four servings, she likes really BIG servings), but as you all know freezing noodles - not pretty. So I take a little extra time, make sure the chicken is done before I add the noodles and then scoop out half of the soup to freeze and then add the noodles to the 1/2 I'm serving that night. Then when I unfreeze the other stuff, I bring it to a boil and toss in the noodles to finish it off. Works nicely for me and I get two meals out of one and no soggy noodles!

AGGHHHHH!!!!

Yes, that's my official opinion of the Gilmore Girls tonight. So the episode tonight went along fairly well - I really didn't think Rory was getting that fellowship in any case. That was all going too smoothly. But overall it was a fun episode. BUT then the trailer for NEXT week...talk about leaving you hanging! It was hinting that Logan was going to propose and then I read the trailer on the Internet for the week after...it looks like it is going to take them like two or three weeks to finally get us an answer on that front! I want Logan and Rory to get together...and since Chris and Lorelai didn't work out, Lorelai and Luke need to get back together! I'm remember why I usually watch seasons AFTER they get out on DVD - no waiting a week or more to find out what is going to happen! I like happily ever afters!!! And we really need to see more of Lane's twins!!

Pirates?

Did you know there are still real-life pirates? Definitely not something you think about in this modern world, but the International Maritime Bureau has warnings out agains them!

LIFE Dinner

Ray and I were at a LIFE fundraiser last night. While the little "ad" spiels throughout got old, it was actually a really nice dinner (and I went knowing I'd give money). I bought a DVD - A Distant Thunder - about partial birth abortion. I'd actually already seen the video, but didn't own it yet. The producer was there to speak as well. Pretty cool - and the video (only about a 1/2 hour) is definitely worth seeing. I had a hard time following it the first time because it isn't really linear, but it has some great moments in it. And the second time you get it really well:) Or if you can think outside a box (not me), you'll probably not have any problems. Oh, and it is NOT graphic.

The other speaker was Pam Stenzel on abstinence. She mostly talks to teens and she was excellent. Hilarous and has great points. Definitely someone I would like to talk to my kids!

Happy Birthay to the Holy Father!

Pope Benedict just turned 80. The 19th will also be the 2nd anniversary of his election as pontiff.

Second Sunday of Easter

Strange little side story here. The incense that the priest uses is always a little strong (drives Ray bonkers), but anyway, I was sitting up front (I was reading today) and I swear it smelled like the priest burned the incense today. Anyway, that really hasn't nothing to do with Church, but it was a strange little incident in my life today.

On another note, I was listening to the priest talk about the apostles and their frames of mind after Christ's death and it got me thinking how I can better explain early Christianity to my western civ classes - yes, I know not what the priest was aiming for, but it worked for me.

All my papers on 13 Days are now graded - finally! I'm caught up for the moment - now I just need to stay there!

Notice Pat's standing to do dishes!

At work in AK

My work never leaves me....it just follows around in my laptop!

AK Signs

This sign is down the road from my parents - this is actually my brother's street! I think the road might have a dual purpose, but I don't think I want to share the road with an airplane!

Silent Cal

I just found a website that has a bunch of presidential recordings on it - Calvin Coolidge is just hysterical - so not the voice I would have put with him! Anyway, check out my blog post on it as APB.

Easter Weekend

Ray's parents were here for Easter. We had a nice, fairly quiet, Easter. We went to Mass on Sunday morning. First time in 9 years I didn't go to Vigil, but I was on schedule to read at the 11 AM Mass, so we went to that instead. It was a nice Mass - and actually not too long (just over an hour), which my husband and father-in-law much appreciated. It snowed on and off all weekend here - was 75 last Monday, snowing today. Crazy weather. Our lawn chemical people were here today - at least our lawn was showing today as as opposed to last week when it was covered with snow!

Our taxes are done - and hopefully done right. They got complicated this year - we might have to break down and pay someone to do them next year. It is really my fault - working out of state and all.

I'm really just marking time until this semester is over and I GRADUATE!!! I can't wait - I'm so SICK of school. I want to assign homework, not do it! I love my internship, but classes are driving me nuts - I really just don't care is my problem. Some of it is that because of transferring this degree just drug on too long. But it is almost over! I'm actually going to walk because Ray has to sit through the ceremony as faculty as anyway, so I might as well do it as well. Does mean I have to buy a cap and gown, but I'll survive.

Well, I should get back to work - trying to do paperwork during office hours. I moved them to today since yesterday was Easter.

Radio Car Ads

I just had to turn off the radio - why? Because it seriously is going to make me CRAZY. I do a lot of grading and homework late at night and often like to listen to the radio. The radio gives me a nice mix of music as well as tells me things like the news and weather if I want it. But I can't listen to late night radio anymore because of all the idiotic car ads! I mean ads in general are annoying, but I swear NOTHING tops local late night car ads. They are so lame, stupid and REPETITIVE. I swear I hear the same stupid car ad 30 times a night. If I only heard each ad once a night, I could probably handle it - but again and again? And there are like three different dealers who do this. I personally would never buy a car from any of them just based on their stupid car ads! That's how much they annoy me. Local political ads - which are also repeated 30 times an hour during election time - are always fairly annoying, but they go away after a month or so. The car ads never do! All local advertising should be banned on the principle it drives mad. Why are local ads so bad? I don't have a advertising degree, but I think I could do better! The other one that was also driving me crazy lately was in AK - the ASD is campaigning for school bonds and the superintedent gets on to talk about Clark Middle School - very annoying and fawning. I think I hate their superindendent just on that. The main point of this rant? DOWN WITH CAR ADS!!! They pressure differeniate, as Ray says (which means they suck in pilot speak).

Well, I should get back to doing my homework. I'm listening to music on my laptop now - I won't feel the need to destroy anything that way.

Home again

I'm back home now as well - I spent today cleaning and I seem to have finally found the bottom of the house...now if I can just say the same thing about the computer! Bones tonight - YEAH!
